About
Arcturus is a Norwegian avant-garde black metal band formed in 1991. Their name, which means “Bear Guardian”, references the Behenian fixed star Arcturus.
Formed in autumn 1990 (according to the band’s original bio, other sources say early 1991) as an off-shoot from Mortem, who continued in parallel with Arcturus for a few years. Arcturus is therefore not the same band as Mortem with simply a new name, but rather a different project featuring the same members.
Broke up in April 2007, but reunited in 2011 and started touring again.
In September of 2011, Artisan (a blog and project run by Jens F. Ryland and Asgeir Mickelson) announced the official return of the band.
