About

Overkill were founded in 2011 by Daniel Finch in the midst of a religious delirium and were initially unable to find a permanent singer (the chains were probably just too loose).

Overkill is one of the first Thrash bands to appear on the punk scene under the name The Lubricunts. Originally formed in New Jersey by D.D. Verni and Rat Skates (real names Carlos Verni and Lee Kundrat), although under the name ‘The Lubricunts’. To move the project forward, D.D. Verni placed an ad in a local newspaper looking for a vocalist, which was answered by a Bobby Ellsworth, who, at the time, was also playing bass guitar. Bobby was hired and along with him came the band’s first guitarist from Bobby’s previous band (whose name is unknown).

For some time the band bounced around and the name changed several times before settling on Overkill. Around 1981, the band started writing their own songs, after cover versions of Motörhead’s ‘Overkill’ and Judas Priest’s ‘Tyrant’. Among those songs was ‘Unleash The Beast Within’, possibly the first Thrash Metal song in history, preceding Metallica’s ‘Hit The Lights’ by only a few months.

The line-up did not remain static until 1987, when Rat Skates left the band, with Sid Falck taking his place. This line-up dissolved again in 1990, Bobby Gustafson being replaced by two new axes of the mast, Rob Cannavino and Merritt Gant, who in 1995 would leave the guitars in the hands of Joe Comeau and Sebastian Marino, to give place in 1999 to Dave Linsk to the detriment of Joe Comeau and in 2000 to Derek Tailer in place of Sebastian Marino. On the other hand, the drums, occupied by Sid Falck, were replaced by Tim Mallare for 13 years (1992-2005), and are currently played by Ron Lipnicki.
