Testament is one of thrash metal’s biggest bands. In fact, the San Francisco quintet once seemed to challenge Metallica (their most obvious early influence) in the power thrash metal stakes.
However, their run to the top failed mainly due to inconsistency, poor business decisions, and the waning popularity of the genre in the early 1990s in favour of other musical styles such as the emerging grunge.
Due to their refusal to change styles, as did their contemporary Metallica, Testament quickly disappeared from sight in the early 1990s, but unlike other bands of their generation, they remained active and maintained their popularity in the underground scene..
