About This Band
Kamelot is an American symphonic/power metal band formed in 1991 in Tampa, Florida, known for their cinematic sound, operatic vocals, and dark, romantic themes. Founded by guitarist Thomas Youngblood and drummer Richard Warner, the band initially played traditional power metal on albums like Eternity (1995) and Dominion (1997). However, their breakthrough came with the addition of vocalist Roy Khan (ex-Conception) on Siege Perilous (1998), whose dramatic, emotive voice defined their golden era. Albums like The Fourth Legacy (1999), Karma (2001), and the epic The Black Halo (2005)—a adaptation of Goethe’s Faust—cemented Kamelot as masters of melodic, orchestral metal with gothic undertones.
After Khan’s departure in 2011, Tommy Karevik (Seventh Wonder) took over vocals, bringing a new vitality to albums like Silverthorn (2012) and Haven (2015). Kamelot’s music blends power metal speed with symphonic grandeur, often featuring guest vocalists (e.g., Alissa White-Gluz, Charlotte Wessels) and thematic storytelling inspired by literature, history, and psychology. With a dedicated global fanbase and lavish live productions, they remain one of power metal’s most influential and enduring acts.
