About This Band

King Diamond is a Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1985 by vocalist King Diamond (born Kim Bendix Petersen) and comprised of members from his previous band Mercyful Fate. The initial lineup featured King Diamond on vocals, guitarists Andy LaRocque and Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen, and drummer Mikkey Dee. They released their debut studio album, Fatal Portrait, in 1986 through Roadrunner Records. The following year, the band released the hugely influential concept album Abigail, which is widely regarded as a classic of the heavy metal genre.

After releasing albums such as “Them” (1988), Conspiracy (1989), and The Eye (1990), the band entered a hiatus around 1992. However, King Diamond reformed his solo band in 1994 and continued to balance both Mercyful Fate and King Diamond activities for nearly a decade. The band has since released additional albums, including The Graveyard (1996), Voodoo (1998), House of God (2000), The Puppet Master (2003), and the Grammy-nominated Give Me Your Soul…Please (2007). While the band has focused primarily on live performances since 2007, they have been working on a new album titled The Institute. The current stable lineup features King Diamond on vocals, guitarists Andy LaRocque and Mike Wead, bassist Pontus Egberg, and drummer Matt Thompson.
