About This Band
The Project Hate MCMXCIX is a Swedish industrial death metal band formed in Ă–rebro by longtime friends Lord K. Philipson and Jörgen Sandström. Philipson, known for his work with bands such as Dark Funeral, Vomitory, and Grave, had previously edited the influential nineties fanzine Hypnosia Magazine, while Sandström gained recognition for his vocals on the first three classic Grave albums and his tenure with Entombed. Together with producer Dan Swanö, they recorded a three-song demo featuring guest backing vocals from Entombed’s Lars-Göran Petrov, which led to a record deal with Germany’s Massacre Records. Their debut album, Cybersonic Superchrist, marked the addition of female vocalist Mia StĂĄhl, establishing the band’s signature sound of brutal male growls contrasted with clean female vocals.
Throughout the two thousands, The Project Hate MCMXCIX underwent numerous lineup changes while steadily releasing music across various labels including Threeman Recordings, StormVox, and later Season of Mist. The band cycled through several female vocalists, with Jo Enckell replacing StĂĄhl, Ruby Roque joining, and Ellinor Asp taking over alongside renowned drummer Dirk Verbeuren. Philipson has remained the band’s creative core, handling guitars, bass, keyboards, and programming, while Sandström has provided the male vocals consistently since inception. Known for their lengthy, multi-layered compositions and dark thematic content, the band has released over a dozen studio albums, often through Philipson’s own Mouth of Belial Productions label. Their most recent full-length album, Undivine Dethroning, demonstrates the project’s enduring presence in the industrial death metal underground nearly three decades after its formation.
