About This Band
Formed in 1988 in the toxic swamps of New Orleans, Eyehategod (often abbreviated as EHG) emerged as the sonic embodiment of urban decay, addiction, and Southern despair. Combining the filthiest elements of Black Flag’s punk chaos, Black Sabbath’s doom riffs, and the raw hostility of The Melvins, they birthed sludge metal—a genre that sounds like a whiskey-soaked bar fight in a collapsing basement.
The Toxic Origins
Founded by Jimmy Bower (drums) and Mike IX Williams (vocals), EHG quickly solidified their lineup with Brian Patton (guitar), Joey LaCaze (drums, later replaced by Bower), and Gary Mader (bass). Their sound wasn’t just heavy—it was oppressive, drenched in feedback, dissonance, and Williams’ agonized, nihilistic screams.
