Michael Angelo Batio is a rock/heavy metal guitarist and columnist from Chicago, Illinois. He went to Northeastern Illinois University and received a degree in music theory and composition. Guitar One magazine called him the fastest guitarist in the world.

Batio began his career with the band Holland with vocalist Tommy Holland. His Atlantic Records album, Little Monsters, had little success in the mid-1980s. He then teamed up with Jim Gillette on his solo album, Proud to be loud. The two of them along with bassist T.J. Racer and drummer Bobby Rock formed the metal band Nitro, with whom he recorded 2 albums.

Batio has been playing guitar since he was 10, and by the age of 12 he was playing faster than his teacher. In his clinics he mentions that he is ambidextrous and plays 2 guitars at the same time. He also invented the first double guitar (a right-handed and a left-handed guitar). However, the guitar was stolen at a performance in El Paso, Texas, and only 2 of the 4 parts required to assemble it have been recovered. He also invented a string stopper that screws onto the neck of the guitar for live performances, which eliminates the sounds produced by the fingers while playing in legato style.
