About
Officium Triste is a band playing death/doom metal from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. They are inspired by icons such as My Dying Bride or Anathema, but their music is slower and more melodic. The vocal is a combination of a growl with pure singing, but in their music death growl prevails. The roots of Officium Triste go back to the beginning of 1990, when Martin and Johan decided to start a metal band. They decided to call it Reïncremated.
In the summer of 1994 the line-up changed due to other musical tastes. Soon afterwards the band was named Officium Triste. They started playing heavy and melodic doom metal. Soon a decision was made to record a demo, which was recorded at the Elektra studio in Sliedrecht on 4 and 5 August 1994. The demo was released in 200 copies. Officium Triste returned to the well in Rotterdam to record two new songs and an intro on 19th and 20th February 1995. Due to an alleged lack of money they did not record anything. After a year they decided to re-release “Mountains of Depressiveness”. The EP was released in 500 copies. Meanwhile, in summer 1995, bassist Maarten left the band and was replaced by Johan. Although the recordings were delayed by a year, the reviews were very good after the final release. This resulted in a contract with the Dutch underground label Teutonic Existence Records.
