About
Stormwitch was formed in 1979 under the name “Lemon Sylvan” and changed their name in 1981. It was the first German band influenced by the NWOBHM. They are also considered as another of the fathers of power metal, along with their compatriots Helloween, Running Wild and Grave Digger. Despite this they never received similar recognition. During the eighties they were one of the few metal bands to play in Eastern Europe, even playing a concert in Budapest, Hungary in 1989.
In 1994, after the recording of the album “Shogun”, the band broke up after releasing 7 albums. They got back together in 2002 and released 2 more albums. They participated in the 2002 Wacken Open Air. In the 2000s they became better known when bands like Hammerfall and White Skull covered some of their songs.
