About
The Exploited is an American crossover thrash band formed in 1980 in Venice, California. The band was founded by vocalist Mike Muir and has gone through numerous lineup changes over the years. Their music combines elements of punk rock, hardcore, and heavy metal. The Exploited gained a following in the Los Angeles area during the early 1980s and released their self-titled debut album in 1983. The album featured the hit single “Institutionalized” and helped establish the band as one of the leading acts in the emerging crossover thrash genre. Over the years, The Exploited has released numerous albums and undergone several lineup changes. They have also been known for their activism and advocacy on issues such as mental health and homelessness. Despite the band’s name, they have spoken out against suicide and encourage fans to seek help if they are struggling with mental health issues.
