About
It was formed in 1979 within the so-called New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), which emerged in the late 70’s and early 80’s in the British Isles, with a name inspired by the 1968 Vincent Price film, Witchfinder General, characterized by a raw and dense sound with strong influences of Black Sabbath, and especially by the controversial covers of their first two albums, where inquisitorial executions were portrayed, with the model Joanne Latham being stripped naked in front of a church by the band members.
They are especially recognized for being pioneers of the doom metal genre together with Pentagram, Trouble, Saint Vitus and Candlemass, besides being one of the few exponents of this genre to have belonged at the same time to the NWOBHM, together with Pagan Altar.

THANK YOU! Turns out I only had the first two albums. Used to have the original Burning A Sinner, with the graphic cover back in the 80s. One of the first bands I heard with the Sabbath sound, was my favorite album!!
